Transportation & Mobility

New electric transportation systems, including heavier ground vehicles and electrically-powered aircraft, are driving demand for smaller, lighter, and more powerful power converters

Transportation & Mobility

Electrification of transportation systems, particularly commercial trucks, trains, and marine vessels, is being accelerated by environmental concerns, rising oil prices, and advances in battery technology. This is driving demand for inverters and DC-to-DC converters that are smaller, lighter, more efficient, and capable of operating at higher voltages. WBG semiconductors can surpass silicon performance in all of these areas.

Mobile power generation is another emerging need that is driving demand for wide bandgap semiconductors. To address this need, Bandgap Technologies has developed a new GaN-powered inverter which is currently being used in the Company’s Mobile Fuel Cell Generator. Housed in the gold-colored enclosure shown below as installed into the generator system, the Bandgap GaN inverter is half the size and weight of silicon-based inverters with similar capabilities.
