RockeTruck, Inc. Announces Rebranding as Bandgap Technologies

April 22, 2026

April 22, 2026 – RockeTruck, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of advanced power generation and conversion products, today announced the Company’s rebranding as “Bandgap Technologies” at the Del Mar Electronics Show in San Diego County.“Henceforth, we will be doing business as Bandgap Technologies,” announced the Company’s principal founder and CEO Mike Simon. The name change reflects the shift in RockeTruck’s focus from truck propulsion technologies to advanced power electronics. “Since our founding in 2020, the need for advanced power technologies has shifted from truck electrification to grid modernization and a host of new applications such as powering AI data centers,” Simon added. To meet the needs of what it calls the “New Era of Electrification,” Bandgap Technologies is focusing on development and manufacturing of advanced power electronics products including high-power inverters, DC-to-DC converters, and solid-state transformers. The new company name derives from its use of “wide bandgap” (WBG) semiconductors in these products, most notably silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN). The fundamental material characteristics of WBG semiconductors enable Bandgap’s devices to deliver performance improvements and cost advantages over products using conventional silicon-based transistors.Converters using WBG materials can operate at higher voltages and temperatures and can deliver higher quality power with less reliance on bulky “filter components” that add to converter weight and cost. In addition to improving the efficiency of data centers and the design of data servers, WBG technology can help make electric vehicle chargers more compact and efficient, facilitate use of renewable energy, and enable new, high-energy aerospace and defense applications.Bandgap Technologies has achieved significant success since shifting its focus to power electronics in 2022. In 2023, the Company received funding from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop advanced inverters and power modules using GaN, in partnership with Sandia National Laboratories and Stony Brook University. In 2024, the Company received funding from the California Energy Commission to develop solid-state transformers using SiC power modules for electric truck charging. Additional funding for the latter project was received earlier this year from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.Bandgap Technologies, based in Escondido, CA, also builds portable generators that use advanced GaN inverters to deliver clean electric power from hydrogen fuel cells and batteries. Its new “Mobile Fuel Cell Generator” is ideal for powering outdoor television and movie studios, concerts and sporting events, and other off-grid activities requiring large amounts of power.
